Community Service
In tenth and eleventh grade, I participated in the AIDS Walk, which is a walk to raise money in order to find a cure for the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. The AIDS Walk consisted of one walking 6.2 miles around the Hollywood area and gain sponsors to donate money as one walks. I have also volunteered in an organization called Heal the Bay during my junior and sophomore years. This organization asks for people to volunteer and help clean and protect the beach. After hours of working hard at the beach, the rest of the time there is spent by relaxing or having fun while you enjoy the sun’s warm rays. Every year, we had Cesar Chavez Day, which is when the every advisory picks a nearby place that the entire class can volunteer at. Junior year, my advisory stayed at school to clean up and renovate the rooms and hallways. At the end of the day, all the students and faculty were treated to some carne asada and a fun rest of the school day. In my senior year, my advisory volunteered at Saint Vincent de Paul which is a generous thrift store that provides for many people. Volunteering made me feel so good on the inside. My heart fluttered knowing that I am helping out my community by volunteering.
